A Day in the Life of a Food Science Student

Eligibility

  • The primary submitter must be a member of the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA).
  • Videos should be 1–4 minutes in length and reflect the life of a student in fun and a creative way. Submissions should be made via the IFT YouSendIt account by Wednesday, May 15 at 5:00 p.m. CST. Entries may not include unsuitable content; obscenity; disparagement; defamation; pornography; harassment; racial, ethnic, or sexual slurs; other offensive conduct or material, or otherwise include inappropriate or unlawful content, at IFT's discretion.
  • Both individual member and team submissions are permitted. Team submissions should be submitted only once by one member of the team. There is no limit on the number of submissions per team or individual.
  • At least one representative from each submitting team should plan to attend the Annual Meeting & Food Expo Opening General Session on Sunday, July 14, 2013 in Chicago.
  • By participating in the competition, you fully and unconditionally agree to and accept these rules and the decisions of IFT, which are final and binding in all matters related to the competition. Whether or not you receive a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth in these rules. The competition is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and is void where prohibited by law. Videos will not be judged if any of the above eligibility criteria are not met.

License to IFT
By entering the competition, you grant to the Institute of Food Technologists and its agents a perpetual, worldwide, nonexclusive license to display your submission on the internet, at events, or via other IFT related channels at IFT’s sole discretion.

In doing so, you warrant:
1) that your submission, in its entirety, is an original work by you and you have not included third- party content (such as writing, poetry, text, graphics, artwork, logos, photographs, likeness of any third party, musical recordings, clips of videos, television programs or motion pictures) in your submission without permission;

2) that your submission consists of material created by you and that the use thereof IFT or the exercise by IFT of any of the rights granted by you under these rules, does not and will not infringe or violate any rights of any third party or entity, including, without limitation, patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, defamation, privacy, publicity, false light, misappropriation, confidentiality, or any contractual or other rights;

3) that you have all the rights, licenses, permissions and consents necessary in connection with your submission and to grant all of the rights that you have granted to IFT under these rules;

4) all persons who were engaged by you to work on the submission, who appear in the submission in any manner, or have contributed to the submission have: given you their written consent to submit the video without claims for payment of any kind; and provided written permission to include their name, likenesses, image or pictures in or with your submission (or if a minor who is not your child, you must have the permission of their parent or legal guardian) and you may be asked by IFT to provide such permission in writing to the IFT

Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless IFT and its employees, directors, and agents as to any claims relating to the submission or use of the submission in the competition.

Additional Terms
IFT shall not be liable to a winner or any other person for failure to supply a prize by reason of the prize becoming unavailable or impracticable to award for reasons beyond the reasonable control of IFT, including any force majeure event, technical or equipment failure, terrorist acts, labor dispute, or act/omission of any kind (whether legal or illegal), transportation interruption, civil disturbance, or any other cause similar or dissimilar beyond the IFT’s control which impacts or invalidates the competition.

IFT and its employees, officers, directors, agents, contractors, representatives, affiliates, divisions, sections, and/or advertising/promotion agencies (the “Released Parties”) shall not assume any responsibility whatsoever for any of the following: delayed, failed, partial or garbled computer transmissions; technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to, lost, interrupted or unavailable network, server, internet, or other connections; the availability, accessibility, technical failure or miscommunications of computer, satellite, telephone or cable transmissions; the incorrect or inaccurate capture or failure to capture information whether caused by YouTube or YouTube users, tampering, hacking, or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the competition; errors of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic, network or otherwise arising out of or relating to the competition; theft, loss, destruction or damage to an Entry in whole or in part; and other factors beyond their reasonable control. The Released Parties are not responsible for injury or damage to your or to any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating in the competition.

Except where prohibited, all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these rules, or the rights and obligations of the participant and IFT in connection with the competition, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Illinois, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of Illinois, or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Illinois.  The venue for any dispute arising under these Rules shall be the state or federal courts located in Chicago, Illinois.
